Description
This white stoneware vase stands 37cm tall and 22.5cm across. Its walls are pierced all over with open, irregular holes that let light pass straight through the body. The surface is deeply textured and pitted, rather like coral or sea sponge, and the rim rises in uneven, rounded points instead of a level edge. It tapers gently from a wider mouth to a narrower foot. Stoneware is a dense, hard-fired clay, and at 2.59KG this is a substantial piece rather than a light ornament, with an earthy, solid feel that suits its organic shape.
Because the walls are open, this is a vase for dried arrangements. A pierced form holds no water, so dried grasses, seed heads, branches and preserved stems suit it best. It is just as good standing empty, where the holes and the texture carry it as a sculptural piece. At this height it works on a console table, a sideboard, a deep windowsill or a low plinth in a living room or hallway. It can also sit on the floor beside a sofa or in the corner of a room among other ceramics. In a bedroom or study it brings a natural, tactile shape to a plain shelf.
The vase is made from 100% stoneware and finished in a white glaze that settles into every pit and ridge of the surface. The maker notes that colour variations may occur because of the nature of the glaze, so each vase differs a little from the next and yours will have its own character. Set it against a plain, deeper-toned wall or curtain so the openings read clearly, and give it space on its own rather than crowding it among busy objects. A few tall dried stems rising well clear of the rim keep the pierced body in full view.

Frequently Asked
Will it hold water for fresh flowers?
No. The walls are pierced with open holes all the way round, so water would run straight out. Dried stems, grasses and branches suit it, or it can stand empty.
How big is the vase?
It is 22.5cm across and 37cm tall, a good height for a sideboard, console table or deep windowsill. It weighs 2.59KG.
What material is the vase?
It is made from 100% stoneware, a dense, hard-fired clay, finished in a white glaze over a deeply textured, pitted surface.
Is every vase exactly the same colour?
Not exactly. The maker notes that colour variations may occur because of the nature of the glaze, so each vase differs slightly from the next.
Are the flowers and the stand included?
No. The styling props shown are not included, so the flowers, the plinth and the table are yours to choose.
Can it stand on the floor?
Yes. At 37cm tall it has enough presence to sit on the floor beside a sofa or in the corner of a room, as well as on a table or shelf.
