Description
The English Bridle is a 638mm tall outdoor pedestal light with a black aluminium frame housing three E14 candle bulbs (sold separately) behind clear seeded glass panels. The die-cast aluminium body carries an IP44 rating, protecting the internal lamp holders from water splashes and solid objects above 1mm, making it suitable for exposed UK gatepost and driveway installations where direct rain exposure is expected.
Designed as a post-top fitting for brick pillars, masonry gateposts or standalone pedestals, the English Bridle mounts via a 267mm square base plate with fixing holes on the underside. The 638mm height raises light above typical waist level, casting downward illumination across pathways and driveways whilst the seeded glass diffuses direct bulb glare. The three-bulb configuration provides up to 180W combined output when fitted with 60W incandescent candle bulbs, or 15-24W LED equivalents for lower running costs.
The seeded glass texture is achieved by rolling the molten glass over a textured surface before forming the panels, creating small bubbles and irregularities that scatter light in multiple directions rather than casting harsh shadows. The black powder-coated finish on the aluminium frame resists corrosion and colour fade in coastal and high-rainfall areas. The decorative fretwork band below the canopy references traditional carriage lamp detailing whilst adding structural rigidity to the upper housing.
The English Bridle collection from Feiss includes matching wall lanterns, hanging lanterns and smaller pedestal sizes, allowing consistent exterior lighting across front elevations, side passages and rear garden zones. The traditional styling suits Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian properties as well as contemporary builds seeking period-appropriate exterior fittings.

Frequently Asked
What bulbs does the English Bridle take?
The pedestal takes three E14 (small Edison screw) candle bulbs, each rated up to 60W. Bulbs are not included. Most users fit warm-white LED candle bulbs between 4-6W and 2700K for lower running costs and longer life than incandescent equivalents.
How is it mounted?
The 267mm square base plate sits on top of a brick or masonry pillar and is fixed via screws or bolts through holes on the underside of the plate. The electrical cable enters through a central knockout hole in the base. Professional installation by a qualified electrician is recommended.
Is it suitable for coastal locations?
The IP44 rating protects against water splashes and the powder-coated aluminium frame resists corrosion better than mild steel alternatives. However, in high-salt coastal environments regular rinsing with fresh water helps prevent salt build-up and prolongs the finish.
What other sizes are available in the English Bridle range?
Feiss produces the English Bridle in multiple formats including wall lanterns, hanging lanterns and smaller pedestal heights. Use the search function or filters at Niori to find other variants in stock.
