Description
The English Bridle is a 553mm outdoor pedestal lantern in black die-cast aluminium with three E14 bulb holders behind clear seeded glass panels. The lantern body is topped with a decorative finial and sits on a fluted pedestal base with fixing holes for bolting to gateposts, brick plinths or paved surfaces.
Designed for gateways, driveways and garden entrances, the pedestal provides directional light at ground level while the seeded glass diffuses the bulb glare into a softer wash. The IP44 rating protects the internal wiring from rain and splashing, making the fitting suitable for exposed outdoor locations. The 216mm diameter footprint allows installation on standard brick or stone gate pillars without overhang.
The black powder-coated aluminium finish resists corrosion from UK weather and blends into traditional, period and cottage-style properties. The seeded glass panes show air bubbles and texture variation characteristic of reproduction Victorian glazing, giving depth when lit from behind. Each of the three E14 candle bulbs (sold separately) can be standard filament, LED or halogen up to 60W per socket.
The ornamental detailing on the crown and base adds depth to the profile without adding weight — the entire lantern is light enough for one person to lift and position during installation. The fluted pedestal base conceals the cable entry point and provides a stable mounting surface for coach bolts or masonry fixings.

Frequently Asked
What bulbs does it take?
The lantern takes three E14 small Edison screw bulbs, each up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED candle bulbs between 4-6W and 2700K for outdoor pathway lighting.
Can it be used on a gatepost?
Yes. The 216mm square base has fixing holes for coach bolts or masonry screws, allowing the pedestal to be mounted on brick pillars, rendered posts, stone plinths or timber gate posts. The cable feeds through the base from below.
Is it weatherproof?
The IP44 rating protects against rain and splashing from any direction, making it suitable for exposed outdoor use. The aluminium construction and powder-coated finish resist corrosion from UK weather.
How is the glass cleaned?
The seeded glass panels can be wiped with a damp cloth and soapy water. For stubborn marks, a soft brush can be used to reach the textured surface without scratching. The glass panels are sealed into the frame and are not user-removable for cleaning.
