Description

The Energizer Max C batteries are 1.5V alkaline cells in LR14 format, supplied as a 2-pack blister. Each cell uses alkaline chemistry to deliver sustained power to medium and high-drain devices such as torches, portable radios, toys and camping lanterns. The cells are mercury-free and incorporate leak-resistant construction to reduce the risk of terminal corrosion during storage.

Designed for consumer and light commercial use, the Max range sits between standard alkaline and Energizer's Ultimate Lithium line, offering a balance between runtime and cost per cell. The C size is common in devices that require more capacity than AA or AAA batteries can provide but where D cells would be unnecessarily large. Typical applications include large torches, battery-powered tools, portable stereos and children's toys with motors or sound modules.

The alkaline formulation provides better performance in high-drain applications than zinc-carbon equivalents, with less voltage drop under load. Each cell weighs approximately 70g and measures 50mm in height by 26.2mm in diameter, fitting any device designed for C-size batteries. The 10-year shelf life claim is based on storage at room temperature in the original packaging, meaning cells bought as spares remain viable for emergency or seasonal use.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between Energizer Max and standard alkaline batteries?

Energizer Max cells use an optimised alkaline formulation that extends runtime in high-drain devices compared to budget alkaline brands. The Max range also includes leak-resistant construction and a longer claimed shelf life of 10 years versus 5-7 years for many standard alkaline batteries.

Are these rechargeable?

No. Energizer Max batteries are single-use alkaline cells and cannot be recharged. Attempting to recharge alkaline batteries can cause leakage or rupture. For rechargeable C cells, look for NiMH (nickel-metal hydride) alternatives.

What devices typically use C batteries?

C batteries are common in medium-sized torches, portable radios, battery-powered camping lanterns, large toys with motors or sound modules, portable speakers, and some older handheld electronics. They provide more capacity than AA batteries without the bulk of D cells.

How long do they last in storage?

Energizer claims a 10-year shelf life when stored in the original packaging at room temperature. Cells stored in hot environments or removed from packaging may lose charge faster. Check the date code on the pack for the manufacturing date.
