Description

The Energizer Max 9V PP3 (6LR61) is a single-cell alkaline battery delivering 9V nominal voltage for smoke detectors, wireless microphones, multimeters, guitar pedals and portable medical devices. The battery uses alkaline chemistry with a steel casing and leak-resistant seal that protects devices from electrolyte leakage even after full discharge.

Designed for devices that draw moderate continuous current or intermittent high-current pulses, the Max range sits between standard alkaline and lithium chemistry in performance. The 9V format comprises six 1.5V AAAA-sized cells in series inside a snap-terminal housing, giving a compact power source for devices where AA or AAA configurations would be too bulky. The battery retains charge for up to 10 years in storage at room temperature, making it suitable for emergency kits, spare device storage and infrequent-use applications.

The snap terminals are spring-loaded to maintain contact pressure over the battery's discharge cycle, and the casing carries date-code printing for stock rotation. At 45g the battery is light enough for handheld devices without shifting the centre of gravity, and the standard 48.5mm height and 26.5mm width fit all devices designed for PP3/6LR61 form factor.

Frequently Asked

How long does it last in a smoke detector?

Typical smoke detectors draw 10-30μA standby current with periodic test pulses. Most users see 12-18 months of service from an Energizer Max 9V in this application, though the detector will chirp for low-battery warning before full discharge.

Can it be recharged?

No. This is a primary (non-rechargeable) alkaline battery. Attempting to recharge it may cause leakage or rupture. Use NiMH rechargeable 9V batteries if rechargeability is needed.

What's the shelf life?

Energizer rates the Max 9V for 10 years of storage at room temperature (20°C). Higher storage temperatures reduce shelf life; lower temperatures extend it.

Is it suitable for guitar pedals?

Yes. Most analogue and digital guitar effects pedals draw 5-50mA continuous, well within the Max 9V's capability. Battery life varies by pedal current draw — a typical overdrive pedal may run 20-40 hours on a single cell.
