Description

This is a single 12V alkaline cell in the A23 size, made by Energizer and supplied one battery to a pack. A23 is a specialist size rather than a household staple, and it does something the common sizes cannot: it carries 12 volts in a slim silver and black cylinder, where an ordinary AA or AAA carries one and a half. That voltage is the point of it, because it lets a very small handset or sensor drive a radio transmitter without room for several larger cells behind it. The chemistry is alkaline, the same chemistry as everyday AA and AAA cells, and this is a single use cell rather than a rechargeable one.

An A23 usually turns up behind something small that sends a signal. Car key fobs, garage and gate remotes, wireless doorbell pushes, roller blind and ceiling fan handsets, and the sensors and keyfobs of wireless alarm systems are the usual homes for it. Before you order, take the old cell out and read the code printed along its side rather than going by voltage alone, because more than one small 12V cell exists and they are not interchangeable. Energizer's own code for this one is E23A, so a battery marked either A23 or E23A is the cell you want.

Each pack holds one battery, so one pack is one cell.
