Description

A slim glass tube, drawn out to 280mm and finished in smoke, with a Z-shaped filament running up the inside. It draws 6W, throws light in every direction and reads as cool white, so the tone stays crisp rather than yellow. The E27 cap suits standard screw holders, and it dims where a compatible dimmer is fitted. We keep it among our decorative lamps rather than our workhorses, and it is the one we reach for in bare-holder pendants where the glass itself is part of the look.

Long, narrow lamps like this suit fittings that hold the glass proud: a cluster of flexes over an island, a single drop at the turn of a stairs, a bracket that leaves the tube exposed. The cool white note reads clean in kitchens, workrooms and utility spaces, where a warmer tone can look muddy against grey or white paint. Over a dining table we would put it on a dimmer and take it low, since the smoked glass softens the output before the dimmer does anything.

The tube is glass in a smoke tint on a standard screw cap. Give it a moment to cool after use, then run a dry lint-free cloth along the glass to lift dust; keep household sprays and solvents off the tinted surface and off the cap, and hold the cap rather than the tube when swapping it out. It carries a three year warranty. Where you are lighting a long run, a row of these at even spacing does more for a room than one broad shade, and we would happily mix them with a shorter globe on the same flexes. A suitable dimmer is needed if you want to take the level down, and one is not supplied.
