Description

A slim clear glass tube on an E27 cap, made to be looked at rather than tucked away behind a shade. It runs at 6W and gives a neutral white at 4000K, cooler and cleaner than the warm yellow of a traditional lamp, so worktops, paperwork and mirrors read true under it. The clear glass leaves the workings on view along the length of the tube. It dims on a compatible dimmer, which is bought separately.

We keep tubular lamps for the fittings that show the lamp off: an open pendant over a kitchen island, a cluster of cord sets above a dining table, a caged wall light, or a mirror flanked by bare holders. At 280mm the tube has real presence inside a tall glass shade, and its slender width slips into narrow openings where a round globe would sit awkwardly. It suits anyone after a brighter, more modern light in a period-looking fitting, and anyone who likes the levels dialled back in the evening.

Glass and metal do the work: a clear tube with a standard screw cap, sized for fittings where the lamp is part of the design. Keep it clean by switching off at the wall, letting the glass go cold, then running a dry lint-free cloth down the tube; hold the cap rather than the glass when fitting or removing it, and leave sprays and polishes out of it. It carries a three year warranty. We stock it in clear glass, and it is the one we reach for when a fitting has nothing to hide the lamp behind. Run them in a row along a set of hanging cords and you get the line of light without the bulk of a shade.
