Description

Smoked glass drawn out into a long, narrow tube, finished with an E27 screw cap. At 280mm it stands tall in an open fitting, and the tint takes the hardness off the light within so the bulb can sit in plain view. Output is cool white, clean and slightly crisp rather than yellow, and it is dimmable where a compatible dimmer is fitted. We keep it among our decorative bulbs rather than our workhorses: it draws 6W and gives a gentle light rather than a flooding one.

It suits fittings that leave the bulb exposed: pendants on bare flex, cage and open-frame shades, wall lights with the lampholder on show, and clusters where the vertical line of the tube does the work. Over a kitchen island or a long dining table, a row of them reads well. Shops and studios use them the same way, ranked along a rail or a beam. At 500 lumens it is better thought of as atmosphere than as the main light for a room, so we would pair it with something brighter nearby. Dimming needs a dimmer rated for LED loads, and none is supplied with the bulb.

The body is glass throughout, in the smoked finish, with a standard screw cap at the base. Dust it only once the bulb is switched off and cool, using a dry cloth and nothing wet near the cap. Because the glass is tinted, it looks presentable unlit as well as lit, which matters at eye level. It carries a three year warranty. We like it best where the fitting gives the tube room to show its full length, mixed with shorter globes on the same run of flex.
