Description

A slim clear glass tube on an E27 screw cap, giving a warm white light that can be dimmed with a compatible dimmer. It stands 280mm tall, long enough to read as a deliberate part of a fitting rather than something to tuck out of sight, and narrow enough to slip inside a slender shade or hang bare on a flex. At 6W it asks very little of the circuit, and the tone sits on the soft, yellowy side of white rather than the crisp side.

Bare in a row over a kitchen island, a pair in open glass wall lights, or one alone in a lantern or cage pendant: this is a bulb for the places where the bulb itself is on show. We reach for it in hallways and dining rooms, and for anyone who likes a decorative tube but still wants the light turned right down after dinner. Do check the dimmer, though. A suitable dimmer is needed, and one rated for small LED loads will give the steadiest run from full brightness down to low.

Clear glass throughout, so there is nothing frosted to soften what you see, and the light spreads all the way round rather than being thrown in one direction. It carries a three year warranty. Clear glass does show dust and fingerprints more readily than opal, so run a dry lint-free cloth along the tube from time to time, with the power off and the glass cool. In a fitting with several lampholders we would put the same tube in each one; mixing lengths and shapes in a single pendant seldom looks settled, while a matched set of these reads as one clean line of light.

How much light does it give?

Will it work on my dimmer?
