Description

The smoked glass keeps the tube discreet when it is lit, so what you see is a soft column of light rather than a bright point. It is an LED lamp on an E27 cap, drawing 4W and running at 4000K, a clean cool white that reads crisp against pale walls and painted timber. The tube stands 185mm tall and is narrow enough to sit inside a slim shade or hang bare from a flex without looking bulky. Light comes out all the way round, so it works upright or hanging down.

We reach for this one in open fittings where the lamp is part of the look: bare pendant sets over a kitchen island, cage and cane shades, a row above a bar counter, or a pair on a dining table. The smoke tint means you can look towards it without squinting, which matters where a pendant hangs at eye height. It dims with a compatible dimmer, so it suits a dining room or snug where you want the level down in the evening. A dimmer is not supplied.

The body is glass with the smoked finish taken through the tube, finished with a standard screw cap. Wipe it when it is cold, with a dry cloth and nothing wet; smoke tints show fingerprints more than clear glass, and a household spray will leave marks. It carries a three year warranty. We would use it in multiples rather than singly, because a line of these along a run of flexes gives the shape its best showing, and it looks right in brass, black or nickel holders alike, whether the flex drops straight or gathers in a cluster.

How much light does it give?

It produces 300 lumens at 4000K, a cool white. The smoked glass softens the look of the lamp itself, so treat it as a decorative light source rather than the main working light in a room.

Will it work on my dimmer?

It is dimmable, but it needs a dimmer suited to LED loads. A single 4W lamp sits well below the minimum load of some older dimmers, so check the dimmer's stated range or add more lamps to the circuit.
