Description

A round frosted globe on an E27 screw cap, this is the bulb we reach for when the lamp itself is on show. The frosting spreads the light evenly across the whole sphere, so you see a soft glow rather than the diodes inside. There is no filament effect and no clear window here; the body lights as one. At 6.5W it draws little, and the warm white 3000K output sits on the yellow side of neutral, close to the colour of an old filament lamp.

We would use it in an open pendant, a bare flex drop over a kitchen table, or a floor lamp with a wide shade where the bulb peeps out below. It suits anyone who wants the shape of the globe to do the decorative work. In a bedside lamp or a hall pendant it gives a gentle light that is easy to sit beside for an evening. Wired for a domestic mains supply and meant for rooms that stay dry, it is not one for a porch or a wet room. It is not dimmable, so put it on a plain switch and keep dimmer circuits for lamps designed to take them.

It measures 95mm across the widest point of the sphere, a size that reads generously without dominating a small shade. Wipe it only when cool and unpowered, using a dry cloth; damp cloths and cleaning sprays have no place near a lamp cap. It carries a two year warranty.
