E27 (ES) LED Candle Bulb 8.5W 806lm Non-Dimmable - Daylight 6500K

This is an LED candle bulb with an E27 screw cap, the larger Edison fitting rather than the small SES thread most candle lamps use. It draws 8.5W and puts out 806 lumens, which is the brightness a 60W filament candle used to give, and the pack states it as a 60W replacement. The tapered candle body and the lower moulded section are finished in white, so the lit bulb reads as a soft block of light rather than a bright point, and the colour temperature is 6500K daylight.

E27 candle lamps turn up in chandeliers, multi arm ceiling lights and wall brackets that were wired for larger screw caps, and in older fittings where a candle shape is wanted but the socket is a full size ES. The 6500K daylight output sits at the crisp, blue white end of the scale rather than the yellow end, so it suits places where you want to see clearly: a kitchen, a utility room, a garage bench, a home office or a craft table. It is not the light for a soft evening sitting room. The 240 degree beam angle spreads light widely around the lamp, so a shade or a multi arm fitting fills out evenly.

This bulb is not dimmable, which the pack confirms with its non dimmable mark, so pair it with an ordinary on and off switch rather than a dimmer circuit. Will this fit my light, and how do I check?

It takes an E27 screw cap, the larger of the two common screw threads. Take the old bulb out and measure the metal thread across: E27 is roughly 27mm, while the smaller SES candle cap is about 14mm.

Can I use it on a dimmer switch?

No. This lamp is non dimmable and the pack carries the non dimmable mark, so run it from a plain on and off switch. On a dimmer circuit a non dimmable LED can flicker, buzz or fail early.

What does 6500K daylight actually look like?

It is a crisp, blue white light rather than a yellow one, closer to overcast daylight than to a filament bulb. Good where you need to judge detail or colour, less suited to a relaxed evening room.

Which old bulb does 806 lumens replace?

806 lumens is the long standing match for a 60W incandescent, and the pack states a 60W replacement. Swapping a 60W filament candle for this one should give you a very similar level of light.

How wide does the light spread?

The beam angle is 240 degrees, so light travels sideways and downwards as well as forwards. That suits shaded pendants, multi arm fittings and wall lights where an even wash matters more than a tight beam.
