Description

A long slender glass tube on a small screw cap, this gives soft warm light without the bulk of a conventional lamp. It runs 280mm from cap to tip and stays narrow the whole way, so it reads as a line of light rather than a ball of it. Output is warm at 2700K, spread all round the tube, and the clear glass leaves the workings on show. LED inside keeps the draw down to 6W, and it dims with a suitable dimmer, bought separately.

We reach for this where a fitting puts its lamp on display and a short round bulb would look wrong: open wall lights, tall glass lanterns, a hall pendant with the flex on show. The warm tone sits well in sitting rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms, and on a dimmer it will drop to a low glow for late evenings. Because the cap is E14, it goes into the smaller lampholders used across decorative fittings rather than the standard large screw. It is a sensible swap for anyone still feeding a set of decorative lamps that eat power.

The tube is clear glass throughout, so keep it clean if you want the light crisp: switch the fitting off, wait for the lamp to lose its heat, then wipe the glass end to end with a dry lint-free cloth, handling it by the cap. No cleaner is needed and none should be used. It carries a three year warranty. The LED is built in, so there is nothing inside to change. Fitted in a row down a stairwell, or through a bank of open wall lights, the repeated upright line does the work.
