Description

Cut as a shallow curve rather than a steep taper, this metal shade sits low and wide, spreading light downwards across a mouth of 21cm. Satin black gives it a flat, quiet surface that keeps the eye on the light rather than the shade itself, and the curved profile eases the edge of the pool below. It is non-electric, so lamp and power both come from the fitting it sits on.

We would put it on the curved over arm floor lamp from the same range, where the arm reaches out over a chair and the shade hangs just above head height for reading. That low, broad shape works best where you want light on a book, a table or a worktop rather than a wash across the whole room, so it suits a reading corner, a seat beside the sofa or a spot at the end of a kitchen island. A GLS or tubular LED does the job neatly beneath it, chosen to suit the host fitting.

The shade is pressed from metal and painted, light enough to handle easily and firm enough to keep its shape in use. Dust settles on the inner face as much as the outer, so an occasional wipe with a dry duster on both surfaces is all it asks; keep polishes and solvents away from the paint. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the same shallow cone in painted antique brass, antique copper, painted bronze, pewter, beige stone and satin nickel with silver, and in a wider 30cm size if you want a broader spread of light from the same shape.
