A shallow curved cone in painted bronze, this metal shade measures 21cm across and sits low and wide rather than deep. The curve softens the profile so the rim flares gently outwards, and because the shape is broad and shallow it spreads light over a generous pool below rather than dropping it in a narrow column. The bronze has a warm, slightly darkened tone that settles well against wood, painted plaster and darker metals.

This is a non-electric shade, made to finish a fitting rather than to work on its own. We stock the curved over arm floor lamps from the same range, and this is the shade we would put on one for a reading corner or the space beside an armchair. The low, wide form keeps light where you want it, which serves a chair, a side table or a desk far better than trying to light a whole room. It suits a pendant too, particularly over a kitchen worktop or a small table where a deeper shade would hang in the eyeline.

Construction is metal throughout with a painted bronze finish, and the small size keeps it light in the hand. Keep it looking well with an occasional dust, and for fingermarks use a barely damp cloth followed by a dry one; leave abrasive creams and household sprays alone, as they will dull painted metal quickly. It carries a one year warranty. The same shallow cone comes in painted antique brass, painted antique copper, beige stone, satin black, pewter and satin nickel, and in a wider version of the identical shape if you want the light thrown further. Mixing two finishes across a pair of lamps is worth considering, since the shape stays constant and only the colour shifts. The lamp itself belongs to the fitting the shade is fixed to.
