A shallow curved cone in painted antique copper, this metal shade sends its light straight down rather than out, so it reads as a small pool of brightness beneath the fitting. At 21cm across it stays modest, and the low curve keeps the whole shape close in to the lamp holder instead of dropping around it. The finish is a painted antique copper, with the softer, slightly darkened tone of metal that has aged a little, and the outer face is the part that shows.

We stock it chiefly for the curved over arm floor lamps in this range, which are sold without a shade so the finish is yours to choose. It sits just as happily on a pendant set or on a table lamp base sized for a shade of this type. The tight spread suits working positions: beside a reading chair, over a bedside table, above a narrow console, or repeated in a row along a kitchen island. In the host fitting we would reach for an LED GLS or a slim tubular lamp, both of which tuck away well under a cone this shallow.

The shell is metal throughout and light in the hand, with the paint carried over the visible outer surface. A dry duster keeps it looking right, and if marks build up, a barely damp cloth on a cool shade will lift them; abrasives and solvent cleaners will flatten the copper tone, so leave them alone. It carries a one year warranty. The same shallow cone is offered in painted antique brass, painted bronze, pewter, satin black, beige stone and satin nickel, and there is a wider version at 30cm if you want the light to spill further across a table or worktop. Mixing two or three finishes along one run works nicely. The shade is sold on its own.
