A shallow curved cone in metal, finished in painted antique brass, it measures 21cm across and sits low over the lamp. The curve softens the edge of the cone so the profile reads gently rather than sharp, and the painted finish gives a warm, aged gold tone that catches light without glare. It is light in the hand, and small enough to keep a floor or table lamp looking spare.

We reach for a shade this size where a bigger drum would crowd the room: beside a reading chair, over a side table, on a slim floor lamp in a corner. The shallow cone throws light downward, which suits reading and task corners better than a shade that spills in every direction. It suits a lamp you sit next to rather than one meant to light a whole room. It fits the curved over arm floor lamps in the same range, which we stock without shades so the finish is yours to choose. With a host fitting on an E27, an LED GLS or tubular lamp is what we would put in.

Pressed metal throughout, painted rather than plated, so the colour is even across the curve and around the rim. Dust it with a dry cloth and, if it needs more, a barely damp one; keep polishes and scouring creams away from the paint, and let the lamp cool before you handle the shade. It carries a one year warranty. The same cone comes in painted antique copper, beige stone, satin black, painted bronze, pewter and satin nickel/silver, and there is a wider 30cm version if you want more presence. Being non-electrical, it is a shade on its own.
