Description

A shallow curved cone pressed from metal and painted a soft beige stone, a warm neutral that reads closer to putty than to cream. At 21cm across and just 7cm deep, the profile stays low and wide, so light spills outwards as much as it drops. This is a shade on its own, with no wiring and no lampholder, sized to sit on a host fitting that provides the electrics.

We keep it as the partner for the Dreifa curved over arm floor lamps in the same range, which are supplied without a shade so you can choose the finish yourself. The broad, open mouth suits a reading corner: stand the floor lamp behind an armchair and the cone lays light across a book and the arm of the chair rather than across the whole room. It also earns its place on a table base beside a sofa, or in a bedroom where the glow wants keeping low. An LED GLS or tubular lamp in the host fitting is what we would reach for.

The shade is metal throughout, with a painted surface that holds its matt beige stone tone and gives the cone a little heft in the hand without making it awkward to lift on and off. Lift dust from the outside with a dry duster, and wipe the inner face now and then with a barely damp cloth, no solvents and nothing abrasive. Indoors, in rooms that stay dry, is where it belongs. It carries a one year warranty. If you want a wider pool of light, the same shallow cone is made in a larger diameter, and this smaller size is also offered in satin black, pewter, satin nickel and silver, painted bronze, antique brass and antique copper. Lamps are not included.
