Description

Dolly is a rocking sheep with a deep, curly coat, a contrasting face and feet, and a little tufted tail, all standing on a pair of curved wooden rockers. She is made from polyester, iron and poplar wood, and she measures 65cm long, 34cm wide and 53cm tall. That makes her a proper ride-on rather than a shelf ornament, yet compact enough to tuck into the corner of a small bedroom. The white coat has a tightly curled, shaggy pile that invites a stroke as much as a ride, and her floppy ears and round head give her a friendly, slightly sleepy look.

We think she belongs in a nursery, a playroom or a child's bedroom, where she can be a ride in the morning and a friend at bedtime. Her maximum load is 60KG, a generous limit for a ride-on of this size, and at 3KG she is light enough to carry from the bedroom to the living room whenever play moves rooms. Wooden handles at her head give small hands something to grip, and wooden footrests on the rockers give little feet a place to rest. She also makes a lovely Christmas or birthday present, and when nobody is riding she sits happily beside the tree as part of the decor.

The rockers are smooth curves of wood with rounded ends, joined by crosspieces beneath her hooves, and the coat is a deep pile across her whole body, with a contrasting pile on her face, hooves and tail tip. The maker's assembly instructions come as a PDF download. For styling, set her on a rug beside a reading chair or at the foot of the bed, where the white coat sits beautifully against wood floors, woven baskets and soft curtains, and she reads as part of the room rather than a toy to be cleared away each night.
