Description

This is a stoneware vase shaped as if soft clay had been gathered and left to fall into deep, flowing folds. The folds run from the base to the rim, where they finish in a jagged, uneven edge, so the top reads almost like a crown of small peaks. It stands 18cm tall and 17cm across. That compact, rounded size holds a short bunch of stems or sits happily empty as an object in its own right. At 1.1KG it has a reassuring weight in the hand. The blue reactive glaze settles more deeply into the hollows and thins over the ridges, so the colour shifts across the surface, and a fine crackle runs through the glaze.

Because it is barely taller than it is wide, it suits low places where a tall vase would crowd the view: a dining or coffee table, a hall console, a deep windowsill, or a shelf among books and other ceramics. The folded outline gives a shelf real texture, and the blue sits comfortably beside white, cream and pale wood, as well as warmer autumn shades.
