Description

The Dernessa is a large flush ceiling light: a round drum 76cm in diameter and 15cm high, wrapped in a grey linen fabric with a fine woven texture. The body is steel in white, and a white diffuser closes the underside of the drum so the bulbs stay out of sight. It takes five E27 bulbs of up to 25W each. The bulbs are not included, which leaves the choice of light colour with you. Its IP20 rating settles where it belongs: indoors, in rooms that stay dry, so not a bathroom or an outdoor wall.

Because it sits close to the ceiling rather than hanging from it, the Dernessa suits rooms where a pendant would feel too low. At 76cm across it has the scale to serve as the main light in a generous living room, a main bedroom or a dining room. The grey fabric looks soft and warm against a white ceiling, and it sits comfortably with neutral schemes, pale walls and natural wood. With five bulbs behind a single diffuser, the light comes through as a gentle, even glow rather than bright points.

The steel body gives the drum a firm frame, and the linen shade wraps the full circumference in grey, with white on the underside. There is no switch on the light itself, as it is switched at the wall, so it answers to the light switch you already have.
