Description
A round outdoor bulkhead with a hooded eyelid shroud drawn over the upper half, so the light falls downward and forward rather than straight into your eyes as you come up the path. The opal white diffuser sits proud of an anthracite surround, a deep grey that reads almost black against pale render and disappears politely against dark brick. At 27cm across, with only a shallow projection, it keeps close to the wall where doorways and narrow passages leave little room to spare. It takes an E27 lamp, and we would put an LED candle in it.
This is the sort of fitting we reach for at a back door, a side passage, a garage wall or a garden room, anywhere that wants steady, unfussy light without drawing attention to itself in daylight. Sealed against rain and windblown dust, it holds up outdoors through a British winter, and it works just as well on a porch ceiling as on the wall beside the door. There is no switch on the body, so control comes from wherever you already have it, and with a compatible lamp and dimmer the level can be brought down. Allow up to 40W.
The anthracite finish is even and low sheen, and the opal diffuser spreads the lamp so no bright spot shows through the middle. Keep it looking right by turning the power off, then wiping the diffuser with a damp cloth and running a soft brush round the rim where leaf litter and cobwebs gather; grit left in the seam is what dulls a bulkhead first. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the eyelid in sand white as well as anthracite, and the same range runs to framed and plain bulkheads in both finishes if you want to match several doors around a house. Lamps are not included.

Frequently Asked
What size is it and how far does it stand off the wall?
It measures 270mm in diameter with a projection of 70mm, so it stays flat enough for a tight porch or a narrow side passage.
Which lamp should I use?
It takes an E27 lamp up to 40W. An LED candle in the C35 shape is the one we would fit, as it sits neatly behind the opal diffuser.
Can I dim it?
Yes, provided the lamp is a dimmable type and it is paired with a suitable dimmer.
Will it cope with rain?
It is rated IP54, which covers splashing water and windblown dust, so it is fine on an exposed wall or under a porch.
Can it go on a ceiling?
Yes. It is happy face down on a porch or car port ceiling as well as on a vertical wall.
How do I clean it?
Switch the power off first, then wipe the opal diffuser with a damp cloth and clear the rim with a soft brush. Avoid solvents on the anthracite finish.
