Description

Black crystal cut into a deep, eight-sided rim, this is the visible part of a recessed light and nothing else. The octagon reads as a small piece of jewellery in a ceiling, the facets catching light along each cut edge rather than sitting flat and plain. It measures 90mm across, a little wider than the 62mm aperture it is made for, and the depth gives the crystal enough body to hold shadow as well as sparkle. It is non-electrical, taking its light from the lampholder component that completes the fitting.

We reach for these where a run of plain white bezels would feel too utilitarian: a dressing room, a landing, the ceiling above a chest of drawers or a drinks cabinet, a small cloakroom. Black crystal holds its own against dark paint and looks deliberate against a pale ceiling, and used in a small group it gives a hallway rhythm without shouting. It suits anyone working to a quiet scheme who still wants something worth looking up at. This one belongs in dry rooms indoors; a shower area or a covered porch calls for a sealed fitting instead.

The rim is solid crystal, black through the cut rather than coated on the surface, and light in the hand. Dimming is possible where dimmable lamps and a suitable dimmer are used, neither of which comes with the rim. To keep the facets bright, dust them with a dry lint-free cloth and lift fingerprints with a barely damp one, with the power off and the lamp cold. It carries a one year warranty. To finish it you need the matching lampholder and retaining ring kit, which we stock in satin black, aged brass and polished chrome, and the same range runs to chamfered round, chamfered square and bubble rims if you want to vary the shapes across a scheme. No. It is the crystal rim only, and it needs the IL30800 lampholder and retaining ring kit to make a working fitting. We stock that kit in satin black, aged brass and polished chrome.

It is made for a 62mm cut-out, with the crystal rim measuring 90mm in diameter and 20mm high.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer are used. Neither is supplied with the rim.

Is a lamp supplied?

No lamp is included. The lamp is chosen to suit the lampholder kit that completes the fitting.

How should the crystal be cleaned?

With the power off and the lamp cold, dust the facets with a dry lint-free cloth. For marks, use a cloth barely damp with water and dry it straight away, avoiding solvents and abrasive creams.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated for dry indoor rooms only, so keep it out of bathroom zones and away from anything exposed to weather.
