Description

The Knightsbridge CPL Emergency Kit converts standard CPL downlights into emergency lighting that operates for 3 hours during mains failure. The kit consists of a battery pack unit, an inverter module, and pre-wired connectors that link to compatible CPL downlights without requiring hard-wiring or terminal blocks.

Designed for commercial, hospitality and residential installations where emergency lighting is required under UK Building Regulations, the kit works with 6W, 12W, 18W and 24W CPL downlights and can be configured for maintained, non-maintained or switched operation. The battery pack charges from the mains supply during normal operation and automatically switches the downlight to battery power when mains voltage is lost. A green LED indicator on the battery pack shows charge status.

The inverter module measures 211mm × 34mm × 24mm and is designed to fit inside standard ceiling voids above the CPL downlight. The polycarbonate housing carries an IP20 rating for indoor dry-location use. The kit includes a 3-year warranty on the inverter and battery pack (battery cell life depends on charge cycles and operating temperature). The CPL downlight itself is sold separately.

Frequently Asked

Which CPL downlights is this kit compatible with?

The emergency kit works with Knightsbridge CPL downlights rated at 6W, 12W, 18W or 24W. The CPL downlight is sold separately and must be purchased alongside the emergency kit to create a complete emergency lighting system.

What's the difference between maintained, non-maintained and switched operation?

Maintained mode keeps the downlight on continuously, powered by mains during normal operation and by battery during mains failure. Non-maintained mode only activates the downlight when mains power is lost. Switched mode allows manual control during normal operation but activates the downlight automatically during mains failure.

How long does the battery last on a full charge?

The battery provides 3 hours of emergency lighting during mains failure when fully charged. Battery lifespan depends on charge cycles and operating temperature, but typical service life is 3-5 years before replacement is needed.

Does the kit require an electrician to install?

Yes. The emergency kit connects to mains 230V supply and must be installed by a competent person or qualified electrician in accordance with current UK wiring regulations. The pre-wired connectors simplify the physical connection to the CPL downlight, but mains wiring must be handled by a professional.
