Description

This COB LED strip is a continuous, dot-free line of diodes on a flexible reel, giving an even blue glow with none of the spotting you see on older spaced-diode tape. It draws 10.5W per metre and pushes out around 140 lumens per metre, supplied on a 5 metre reel that you trim to the length you need. The strip cuts at the marked points every 5cm, so a run can be matched closely to a shelf edge, a cove or a recess. Known in the US as led tape, it runs on 24V DC rather than straight from a wall socket.

Being a single-colour blue strip, this one is best thought of as accent and effect lighting rather than ambient room light, so coverage is judged by the line it traces rather than by floor area. It works well picking out the underside of kitchen units, lining the back of shelving and display niches, or grazing a feature wall and skirting line for a wash of blue. The flexible reel bends around inside corners and follows curved profiles, and because it is cut to length you can carry one continuous line along a long run or break it into shorter sections fed from the same supply.

The strip is rated IP00, so it is for dry indoor use only and should be kept clear of bathrooms, damp areas and any outdoor position. It is a 24V DC strip, which means it needs a matching 24V LED driver, sold separately, sized to the total wattage of the run you cut; do not connect it directly to the mains. Rated for 30,000 hours, the reel measures 5000mm long by 8mm wide. Other reels in this range share the same base format in different outputs and colour temperatures.

Does this strip need a separate driver?

Yes. It is a 24V DC strip, so it needs a matching 24V LED driver, which is sold separately. Size the driver to the total wattage of the length you cut, allowing a little headroom, and never wire the strip straight to the mains.

Where can I cut the strip?

The strip can be trimmed every 5cm at the marked cut points along the reel. Only cut on those marks, as cutting between them will leave a dead section. The full reel is 5 metres long, so most runs are made by trimming a length from it.

Can this strip be used outdoors or in a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP00, which means dry indoor use only. Keep it out of bathrooms, kitchens splash zones, porches and any outdoor or damp location, as it has no protection against moisture or dust.

How bright is it and what is it best for?

It gives around 140 lumens per metre in blue, which suits accent and effect lighting rather than lighting a whole room. It is ideal under kitchen units, behind shelving, in display niches and as a wash along a feature wall.
