Description

The Clifton II is a 75cm round coffee table pairing a light travertine stone top with an antique brass cone-shaped pedestal base. The travertine surface is cut from natural stone and polished to a smooth matte finish, showing subtle pitting, mineral veining and tonal variation typical of Italian travertine. The 44cm height suits standard sofa seat heights of 45-50cm, positioning the table surface within comfortable reach.

Designed for living rooms and lounges where the coffee table acts as a focal anchor, the Clifton II's 75cm diameter provides enough surface area for drinks, books and decorative objects without dominating a typical 3-4m lounge space. The cone base tapers from a wide 40cm footprint at floor level to a narrower neck where it meets the underside of the stone top, giving visual lightness despite the 23kg overall weight. The antique brass finish on the aluminium base shows an aged patina with darker tonal variation across the surface.

Travertine is a porous sedimentary stone softer than marble, so the surface will mark over time from everyday use. This is characteristic of the material rather than a defect. The stone top sits on the metal base without bonding, allowing it to be lifted off for moving or cleaning. The combination of pale stone and warm brass pairs well with neutral upholstery, mid-century furniture and both contemporary and classical interiors.

Frequently Asked

How is travertine different from marble?

Travertine is a sedimentary stone formed by mineral deposits from hot springs, while marble is metamorphic limestone. Travertine is softer and more porous than marble, showing characteristic pitting and veining. It marks and stains more easily, so it requires coasters and immediate cleaning of spills.

Does the top come off the base?

Yes. The travertine top rests on the cone base by gravity without bonding or fixings. This allows the table to be disassembled for moving through doorways or cleaning under the top, but means the surface can shift if pushed laterally with force.

How should the travertine be cleaned?

Wipe with a barely-damp microfibre cloth and distilled water. Dry immediately. Do not use acidic cleaners, vinegar, lemon juice or commercial stone polishes, as these can etch or discolour the surface. For stubborn marks, a pH-neutral stone cleaner is acceptable.

Will the brass patina continue to age?

The antique brass finish is applied to aluminium, not solid brass, so it will not tarnish in the same way raw brass does. The aged patina effect is part of the factory finish and should remain stable over time with normal indoor use.
