Description

A large smoked bulb made to be looked at rather than tucked away. The tint takes the hard edge off the output, and the colour sits at 2100K, an extra warm amber far closer to candlelight than to an ordinary warm white bulb. At 15cm across and 30cm tall this is a proper piece of glass, big enough to fill the gap under an open shade or to hang on its own from a ceiling rose. It dims, though a compatible dimmer is needed for that.

We would use it where the bulb itself is the interest: an open frame pendant over a dining table, bare flexes dropped down a stairwell, a shop-style fitting behind a bar, or fixed either side of a long mirror. The output is deliberately gentle, so think of it as light to sit under rather than light to work by, and give a kitchen or a study a separate task light alongside. It suits anyone chasing atmosphere in the evening, and on the right dimmer it will settle lower still.

The glass is smoked throughout and finished with a standard E27 screw cap, so the bulb reads as a dark, tinted ornament even when it is switched off. To clean it, turn the power off, let the glass go cold, then wipe it over with a dry lint-free cloth; keep liquids and cleaners well away from the cap. It carries a three year warranty. Will it work on my existing dimmer?

It is dimmable, but it needs a dimmer suited to low-wattage LED loads. A dimmer is not supplied with the bulb, and older resistive dimmers intended for filament lamps may flicker or refuse to dim smoothly at this low a load.

How much light does it actually give?

It draws 4W and gives 120lm, spread all round at 360 degrees. That is decorative brightness, meant to be seen rather than to light a room, so plan on other fittings for reading or cooking.

What are the dimensions and the cap size?

It measures 150mm in diameter and 300mm in overall height, with an E27 screw cap. Check the drop of your pendant, as a bulb this tall sits noticeably lower than a standard shape.

How warm is 2100K?

Very warm indeed. It is an amber, candle-like tone, warmer than the 2700K most household bulbs use, and the smoked glass softens it further.
