Description

A slim tubular lamp in clear glass with a straight filament running its length, on a small screw cap. Because the glass is clear, the filament itself is the thing you see, a bright line of light rather than a soft glow, and light goes out all round. The tone is a crisp 4000K white, cooler and cleaner than the warm yellows most decorative lamps give, with 470 lumens from 4W. We reach for it where a fitting puts the lamp on show and the room wants a clear, working light rather than a cosy one.

It suits open pendants, glass shaded fittings, wall lights and multi arm chandeliers that take the small screw cap, and it earns its place in kitchens, home offices, hallways and stairwells where you want to see properly. It is dimmable, though it needs a dimmer made for LED loads to behave itself; no dimmer comes with it. We would put it on a dimmed circuit over a kitchen island or a run of open shelving, then drop the level in the evening. Best kept to dry rooms indoors on the usual household supply.

Construction is straightforward: pressed clear glass, sealed to a metal cap, with the filament held on its stem inside. There is no coating or frosting, so nothing dulls the look over time. To clean, switch off at the wall and let it go cold, then wipe the glass with a dry lint free cloth and keep sprays and polish away from the cap. Fingerprints show more on clear glass than frosted, so handle it by the cap. It carries a three year warranty. In fittings with several lamps on view, we would use the same tube throughout rather than mixing shapes, so the filaments read as a set.
