Description

A slender clear glass tube on a small screw cap, this bulb runs 185mm from base to tip and keeps a narrow profile the whole way up. The glass is left clear rather than frosted, so the light source stays on show and the tube reads as part of the fitting rather than something to hide behind a shade. It draws 4W and gives a cool white light, crisp and neutral rather than warm and yellow. It also dims, provided the circuit has a dimmer suited to LED lamps.

Tall clear tubes suit any fitting that leaves the lamp visible: open lanterns, candle-arm chandeliers, wall lights with clear glass, and slim pendants over a worktop. We would choose it where a stubby candle lamp looks lost in a long holder, or where the shape of the lamp is meant to be read as much as the light it gives. The cool white tone works well in kitchens, utility rooms, studies and workshops, anywhere you want clean, alert light rather than a soft glow. On a suitable dimmer it will still come down for the evening.

The body is clear glass on an E14 cap, so the finish stays honest and there is no paint or coating to mark or fade. Keep the glass clean for full output: let it cool, then wipe with a dry lint-free cloth, and keep sprays and damp cloths away from the cap. Handle it by the base rather than the glass when changing it. It carries a three year warranty. We keep it for dry indoor rooms on the usual household supply, and it looks best where several exposed lamps sit together and share the same clear glass.
