Description

The Chicago is a 235mm wide outdoor pendant with a cast aluminium housing finished in textured black, clear seeded blown glass panels, and a single E27 bulb holder suspended inside. The pendant hangs on a matching black chain with a 1460mm adjustable drop, allowing installation heights between 510mm and 1510mm from the ceiling rose. The IP44 rating protects against dust and water splashes, making it suitable for covered porches, verandas and entrance canopies.

Designed for traditional and period-style outdoor installations, the Chicago recalls turn-of-the-century street lanterns with its shaped aluminium frame, bottom finial detail and blown seeded glass. The glass texture diffuses the light from the bulb while maintaining visibility of the filament or element inside, which pairs well with vintage-style LED bulbs. The pendant suits covered outdoor dining areas, front door canopies, and veranda runs where ceiling height allows for a 435mm pendant body plus chain drop.

The cast aluminium construction gives the pendant a 2.1kg weight that resists wind movement once installed, while the textured black powder-coat finish hides minor surface marks and weathering better than smooth finishes. The seeded glass is mouth-blown into moulds, so each panel shows slight variation in the bubble pattern and thickness. The chain conceals the cable run and can be shortened during installation by removing links to suit the specific ceiling height.

The IP44 rating protects against dust and water splashes but not direct heavy rain or submersion. The Chicago is designed for covered outdoor areas such as porches, verandas, entrance canopies and gazebos where it has shelter from overhead weather. Avoid installation in fully exposed positions where rain can hit the fitting directly from above or the side.

What bulb does it take?

The pendant takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a vintage-style LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K to match the traditional lantern aesthetic, or a standard warm-white LED for brighter functional light.

How is the chain length adjusted?

The 1460mm chain can be shortened during installation by removing links to suit your ceiling height. The minimum drop of 510mm includes the pendant body plus the shortest practical chain length. The maximum drop of 1510mm uses the full chain.

Does the seeded glass vary between fittings?

Yes. The glass panels are mouth-blown into moulds, so each piece shows slight variation in the seeded bubble pattern, density and thickness. This is a characteristic of the blown-glass manufacturing process, not a defect.
