Description

A short, squat square post light for the garden: 11cm across the base and 35cm tall, finished in anthracite, with a frosted panel that softens the light rather than throwing it straight back at you. Inside there is a single E27 socket, and we would fit an LED GLS lamp here for the low running cost and the quick start on a cold night.

This is the size we reach for along a path, a driveway edge or the front of a border, where a full-height post would look heavy and a spike light would sit too low to be much use. Space a run of them a few paces apart and you get pools of soft light at ground level, enough to pick out the edge of a step or the turn of a gravel drive. It is sealed against rain and hose spray, so it copes with an exposed front garden as happily as a sheltered courtyard. With a suitable dimmable lamp and a compatible dimmer, the output can be brought down for evenings spent outside.

The anthracite is dark enough to sit quietly among planting by day, which is half the point of a low post like this one. Care is a seasonal job: wipe the frosted panel with a damp cloth, and keep leaf litter and mulch from banking up around the base, since grime dulls the light long before a lamp gives out. It carries a two year warranty. We also stock the same square post in a taller height and in matt white, and there is a round version in the range if you would rather lose the corners. Lamps are supplied separately.
