Description

The Chawton is a 402mm picture light with a dark bronze metal body, adjustable knuckle joints on twin mounting arms, and two E14 bulb sockets housed in a rectangular shade. The arms pivot at both the wall plate and shade connection points, allowing the light to be angled precisely onto a painting, mirror, or photograph from 50-150mm above the frame.

Designed for wall-mounted artwork in hallways, dining rooms, living rooms and home galleries, the Chawton works best above frames 400-700mm wide. The twin E14 sockets (bulbs sold separately) provide balanced illumination across the width of the frame when fitted with 25-40W candle or golf ball bulbs. The 186mm projection from the wall keeps the light clear of most frames whilst directing light downwards at 30-45 degrees from horizontal.

The dark bronze finish is an oil-rubbed or aged bronze effect with subtle tonal variation across the metal surface, giving the fitting a lived-in appearance that pairs well with traditional, classical and period interiors. The metal construction includes the rectangular shade housing, the twin adjustable arms, the knuckle joints, and the rectangular wall plate. Each joint holds its position once adjusted, so the light can be set during installation and left without needing regular readjustment.

Frequently Asked

What bulbs does it take?

The Chawton takes two E14 (small Edison screw) bulbs up to 40W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with 25W warm-white LED candle or golf ball bulbs at 2700K for artwork lighting.

What size artwork does it suit?

The 402mm width works best above frames 400-700mm wide. For smaller frames under 400mm a shorter picture light would be more proportionate; for frames over 700mm a longer model provides more even coverage.

Can the light angle be adjusted after installation?

Yes. The twin arms pivot at both the wall plate and the shade connection points, allowing the light to be angled towards the artwork. The knuckle joints hold their position once set, so adjustment is needed only during initial installation or if the artwork is changed.

Is it suitable for use above mirrors?

Yes. The Chawton is commonly used above bathroom mirrors, dressing table mirrors and hallway mirrors where direct downward light is needed. The 186mm projection keeps the fitting clear of the mirror surface whilst directing light onto the glass.
