Chapel 1 Light Outdoor Wall Lantern - Black

The Chapel is a 1 light outdoor wall lantern in black die-cast aluminium with clear glass panels and a traditional half-lantern profile. The lantern houses a single E27 bulb (sold separately) behind four vertical glass panels set into a hexagonal metal frame, topped with a pyramidal cap that sheds water away from the glass. The IP44 rating provides protection against solid objects over 1mm and water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for covered porches, doorways, patios and garden walls with some overhead protection.

Designed for flush wall mounting on rendered or masonry exterior walls, the Chapel sits close to the surface without projecting far into circulation space. The half-lantern design directs light downward and outward through the glass panels, illuminating door thresholds, patio seating areas and path edges without creating glare above eye level. The compact footprint suits narrow wall sections either side of doors or between ground-floor windows where a full-bodied pendant lantern would look oversized.

The black powder-coated aluminium finish resists corrosion in coastal and damp environments and pairs with both traditional brick, stone and render exteriors as well as contemporary cladding and painted masonry. The clear glass maximises light output from the bulb, with the vertical glazing bars casting linear shadow patterns when lit. The lantern accepts standard E27 LED, halogen or filament bulbs up to 60W, giving control over colour temperature and brightness depending on the chosen lamp.

What bulb does it take?

The Chapel takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair outdoor lanterns with a warm-white LED (2700K-3000K) rated 6-10W for efficiency and longevity.

Is it weatherproof?

The IP44 rating protects against water splashes and solid objects over 1mm. This suits covered porches, eaves-protected walls and patios. The lantern is not fully waterproof to heavy rain exposure on fully exposed walls without overhead cover.

How is it fitted?

The lantern mounts directly onto exterior masonry or rendered walls using two fixing screws through a rear wall plate. Cable entry is through the rear. Standard UK outdoor wiring regulations apply — installation by a qualified electrician is recommended.

What height should it be mounted?

Typical mounting height for porch and doorway lanterns is 1.6-1.8m from ground level, placing the centre of the lantern slightly above eye level. This avoids direct glare while illuminating the threshold and approach.
