Description

The Chapel is a 500mm outdoor pedestal lantern constructed from die-cast aluminium with a black powder-coated finish and clear glass panels on all four sides. The lantern head houses a single E27 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately, up to 60W) and sits on a hexagonal pedestal base, giving it the proportions and silhouette of a traditional coach lantern adapted for contemporary outdoor use.

Designed for garden walls, gate posts, patio edges and driveway plinths, the Chapel provides both decorative presence and functional illumination. The IP44 rating means the lantern is protected against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashed from any direction, making it suitable for exposed positions where rain, garden sprinklers or coastal spray are regular occurrences. The 205mm width and depth give the lantern visual presence on a standard brick pier or rendered post without overwhelming smaller entrance pillars.

The die-cast aluminium construction resists corrosion better than sheet metal alternatives, and the powder-coated black finish provides UV resistance to prevent fading under direct sunlight. The clear glass panels allow full light transmission when fitted with a warm-white LED or filament bulb, creating the classic coach lantern glow associated with traditional British exterior lighting. The lantern carries a 10-year manufacturer warranty covering material and finish defects.

What bulb does the Chapel take?

The lantern takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K to recreate the glow of a traditional gas or filament coach lantern.

Can it be used in coastal areas?

The IP44 rating and die-cast aluminium construction with powder-coated finish provide good resistance to moisture and salt spray. For direct coastal exposure within 500m of the sea, regular rinsing with fresh water will extend the finish life.

What surface does it mount to?

The hexagonal base is designed to sit on top of a flat surface such as a brick pier, rendered gate post, or purpose-built plinth. The base includes pre-drilled fixing points for bolting or screwing down to the mounting surface.

Is the glass replaceable if broken?

Yes. The glass panels are removable for bulb changes, and replacement glass is available through Elstead Lighting's spare parts service. Contact us for ordering details if a panel is damaged.
