Description

The Chapel is a 380mm outdoor up wall lantern built from die-cast aluminium with a black powder-coated finish and clear glass panels on four sides. The lantern houses a single E27 bulb socket (bulb sold separately, max 60W) and directs light upwards through the open top, casting both direct illumination above and diffused light through the clear glass panes.

Designed for porch entrances, side doorways, and garden walls, the Chapel fits wall surfaces where a traditional lantern profile is wanted without the scale of a full-size exterior light. The 240mm projection from the wall gives clearance for the upward light spread without the fitting sitting too close to the wall plane. The IP44 rating protects against rain splash and dust ingress, making the lantern suitable for covered positions (porches, eaves, canopies) and exposed wall mounting in typical UK weather conditions.

The die-cast aluminium body resists corrosion better than pressed steel alternatives and holds the black finish without flaking or peeling over outdoor exposure. The clear glass panels are set into metal frames within the lantern structure, so there are no plastic clips or seals to degrade under UV. The upward-facing design means rainwater runs off the sloped roof and does not pool inside the lantern chamber. What bulb does the Chapel take?

The lantern takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K for porch lighting, or a vintage filament-style LED for a more traditional look through the clear glass.

Can it be installed in fully exposed positions?

Yes. The IP44 rating protects against rain splash and dust, making the Chapel suitable for wall mounting on exposed elevations in typical UK weather. The upward-facing design and sloped roof prevent water pooling inside the lantern chamber.

Is the black finish painted or powder-coated?

The black finish is powder-coated onto the die-cast aluminium body. Powder coating bonds to the metal surface more durably than wet paint and resists chipping, flaking and UV fade better over outdoor exposure.

What mounting height works best?

For porch entrances, mounting the Chapel at 1.8-2.1m above ground level places the lantern at head height and directs the upward light across the porch ceiling. For purely decorative wall lighting on garden walls or boundary walls, lower mounting heights of 1.2-1.5m work well.
