Description

The Chapad is a round basket built from coils of braided hemp, 15cm tall and 15cm across, with a tall braided hoop standing over the top to hang it by. The coils are stitched together in horizontal bands and the braid changes from one band to the next, some flat and plaited, others rounder, so the wall is ridged rather than smooth. The colour is the raw straw tone of the hemp.

This hangs rather than stands. A pair hangs well on pegs at about the height of a worktop. The hoop takes a peg, a hook or a rail. The basket is deep for its width, which is what suits it to bread, fruit or kitchen linen, and it will take up to 5.9kg.

The basket is hemp, braided into coils and then stitched into shape by hand, and the hoop is braided from the same material. Because the fibre is natural, some shedding is to be expected. The Chapad basket is also made in a larger size at 20cm. It is for indoor use.
