Description

The Chapad is a round storage basket built from a flat plait of hemp, coiled in rings and stitched together by hand. The body stands 20cm tall and 20cm across, with a plaited band finishing the rim, and a long plaited loop arches above it to hang the basket from a hook or a peg. The loop is worked from the same braid as the body rather than added to it.

It is made to hang rather than to stand. A pair hangs on hooks along a wall above a worktop. At 20cm deep it takes bread, fruit or kitchen linen, and it will carry 7.6kg. It is for indoor use.

The basket is hemp throughout, loop included. Each plait is made by hand and then coiled and stitched, so the spiral does not close in the same place on any two and the rim rises and falls slightly around the circle. Chapad is made in two sizes, this one at 20cm and a smaller one at 15cm that carries 5.9kg.

Frequently Asked

How much will it hold?

7.6kg. The smaller Chapad holds 5.9kg.

How does it hang?

By the plaited loop at the rim, over a hook or a peg. The loop is part of the basket rather than a fitting added to it.

What is it made from?

Hemp, plaited into a flat braid and then coiled and stitched into the basket.

Can it be used outdoors?

No. It is for indoor use.

How do I look after it?

Blot a spill straight away with a damp sponge or cloth. Some shedding of fibre is to be expected from a natural braid.
