Description

The Canterbury is a black outdoor wall lantern with a down-facing glass-paneled lantern suspended from a scrollwork bracket. The lantern frame is die-cast aluminium finished in matt black, with clear glass panels set into a cross-bar grid pattern. The fitting takes a single E27 bulb (sold separately) and carries an IP43 rating for protection against solid objects over 1mm and water spray at any angle up to 60° from vertical.

Designed for porch entrances, patio walls and garage surrounds, the Canterbury provides down-directed light that illuminates steps, pathways and door thresholds. The 330mm projection from the wall and 405mm overall height suit medium-sized walls on semi-detached and detached properties. The scroll bracket gives a traditional appearance that pairs with Victorian, Edwardian and arts-and-crafts architecture, while the black finish also works on modern rendered exteriors where a traditional lantern shape is preferred over contemporary box styles.

The die-cast aluminium construction resists rust and corrosion better than pressed steel equivalents, and the powder-coated black finish is applied after casting to provide a uniform surface. The clear glass panels allow maximum light output from the bulb without tinting or diffusing, making the fitting suitable where direct illumination of steps or door furniture is needed. The scrollwork on the bracket is cast as part of the arm rather than spot-welded, giving a continuous metal structure that holds its shape under wind loading.

Frequently Asked

What IP rating does the Canterbury carry and where can it be used?

The Canterbury is rated IP43, meaning it is protected against solid objects over 1mm in size and water spray at angles up to 60° from vertical. This suits covered porches, canopied entrances and recessed patio areas. It is not rated for fully exposed positions subject to direct downpour or prolonged submersion.

What bulb does it take?

The fitting takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K for traditional porch lighting.

How is the lantern mounted?

The back plate of the scroll bracket fixes to the wall with screws (fixings supplied). The wall must be solid brick, block or rendered masonry capable of supporting the weight of the fitting and withstanding wind loading on the 330mm projection.

Is the glass sealed against water ingress?

The glass panels are gasketed to the lantern frame and sealed to IP43 standard. This prevents water spray ingress but does not make the fitting submersible. The downward orientation of the lantern also helps prevent water pooling on the top surface.
