Our Calonge RGB LED downlights come as a set of three round recessed lights in black and white plastic. Each has a white outer ring framing a black inner bezel and a central lens. Each light is 9.8cm across and 3.2cm high and needs a 7.5cm cut-out. It asks for only 3.2cm of depth behind the ceiling, so it suits a shallow ceiling void where a deeper downlight would not fit. The LEDs are integrated, with a light output of 1,560 lumens, and they change colour as well as moving between warm and cool white. They are rated IP20 and IP44, and we recommend them for dry rooms indoors.

Set into the ceiling of a living room, a group of these gives an even spread of light. The colour-changing setting lets you shift the mood for a film night or friends round for supper. The adjustable colour temperature runs from 2700K, a warm white for relaxed evenings, to 6500K, a crisp cool white for reading or tidying. They are dimmable, and each set comes with a remote control, so you can adjust the light from the sofa. Three matching lights in a single box make it simple to light a whole seating area in a single style.

The bodies are plastic, and each light has orange spring clips at its sides. There is no switch on the lights themselves, as they are switched at the wall. The remote control runs on one CR2032 coin cell. These are wired-in mains lights for a 220-240V supply, so a qualified electrician should install them, and installation instructions are available as a download. The LED and the driver can be replaced by a specialist, which means a fault need not end the life of the whole light. Before ordering, measure for the 7.5cm cut-out and check that 3.2cm of clear depth sits behind the ceiling.
