Description
Our Brett birdy print shows a bird in full flight, drawn with the look of loose, quick brushwork. The bird crosses the picture from side to side, its striped body set between two broad, scalloped wings, one reaching into the upper half and one into the lower. Rings float across the top and soft dots scatter over the bottom, and the pattern runs right out over the moulded edge of the frame, so picture and frame read as one multicoloured piece. It measures 22.5cm across and 30cm tall, hangs in portrait and is only 2cm thick.
At this size it is made for the smaller walls of a home: beside a door, along a hallway, over a desk or a bedside table, or as part of a group of frames. Hung at eye level over a sideboard or a shelf that holds a vase or a candlestick, it brings a cheerful, slightly naive charm that suits a child's room as well as a living room, a study or a kitchen. At 0.25KG it is a light piece to hang, and being only 2cm thick it stays close to the wall, which helps in a narrow passage where a deeper frame would catch a passing shoulder.
It is made of 60% fir and 40% MDF. Fir is a light softwood and MDF is a flat, even board. The frame has a stepped, moulded profile, and the rings and dots carry on across its ridges rather than stopping at a mount, giving the whole thing the feel of a painted panel. To style it, pick out one shade from the print in a vase, a cushion or a candle nearby, and let the bird carry the rest of the wall.
