Description

This is a pair of handpainted stoneware serving platters that tell a little story between them. The round platter is 19cm across and 5cm tall, with a sleeping striped cat sculpted at one edge and a small bird perched on the cat's back, while a trail of paw prints wanders across to the far side. Its partner is a crescent, 23cm long, 12cm wide and 1.5cm tall, painted with a fish skeleton, more paw prints and scattered dots, as if the cat had already finished its supper. Both pieces are made entirely of stoneware and decorated by hand in multicoloured paint.

At 19cm across, the round platter is the size of a side plate, right for a slice of cake, a couple of biscuits or a sandwich, with the cat keeping to one side. The slim crescent suits food that sits in a line: crackers, olives, sliced fruit, or the spoon and teabag beside a pot of tea. Both are made for food, so they can work as everyday plates in the kitchen or come out for afternoon tea at the dining table.
