Description

This wall shelf gives you two tiers of display in one piece: a pair of long green shelves held apart by four wavy posts, each shaped in a run of soft curves. It measures 60cm long, 17cm wide and 21.5cm tall, a size that sits comfortably over a chest of drawers, a desk or a low bookcase without crowding the wall. The body is 70% MDF and 30% firwood, and the whole piece weighs 3.1KG. Because the posts are set in from each end, the shelves run past them a little, which keeps the outline light.

We see it first in a child's bedroom or a nursery, with a row of picture books on the lower shelf and a favourite toy or two on top. The open sides mean everything on it is easy to see and easy to reach, which suits a reading nook or the wall beside a bed. It is just as at home in a hallway, a guest room or a home office, holding small frames, keepsakes and the odds and ends that need a place of their own. The green is soft enough to sit with most wall colours.

The whole piece is finished in water based paint over its MDF and firwood. Two keyhole hanging plates sit at the back, just under the top shelf, for mounting it on the wall, and the maker's assembly instructions come as a PDF download, so you can read them through before you start. The styling props shown are not included. For a calm, balanced look, keep the top shelf for one or two taller pieces and let the lower shelf carry the books, so the wavy posts stay in view between them.
