Description

Our Bibiola wall shelf is two blue boards held apart by four turned posts, each shaped into a run of soft, rounded swells like a stack of beads. It is 80cm long, 20cm wide and 26cm tall, so it reads as a long, low piece on the wall rather than a tall bookcase, and it gives you two levels to fill. The posts are painted in a contrasting shade, which puts their wavy outline front and centre. The shelf is made from 70% MDF and 30% firwood and weighs 4.53KG.

We list it with our kids bookcases, and a child's bedroom, nursery or playroom is where it feels most at home. At 80cm long it spans the wall above a desk, a chest of drawers or a reading chair without crowding it. The 20cm depth takes picture books laid in a pile, a wooden toy or two and the small treasures children like to keep in sight, while the top board makes a ledge for a few favourite pieces. Because it is shallow, it sits close to the wall and leaves the floor below clear for a toy box or a beanbag.

Both the boards and the posts are finished in water-based paint, with an even, matt surface. MDF is a smooth, stable board that takes paint well, and fir is a light softwood.
