Description
The Bern is a 5W LED spike light with a cylindrical graphite aluminium head on an adjustable ground spike, designed for uplighting small garden features, pathway edges and planting beds. The integrated 5W LED produces 3000K warm white light at CRI80, directed upwards through a frosted glass diffuser that softens the beam without losing intensity. The IP65 rating seals the light head against dust ingress and water jets from any direction, making it suitable for year-round outdoor installation in exposed positions.
The spike mounting allows the light to be positioned directly into soil, grass or gravel beds without fixed wiring or concrete bases. The adjustable height range of 88-159mm lets the light sit flush against low planting or raised slightly to clear taller ground-cover plants. The beam angle is approximately 40°, narrow enough to direct light onto a vertical surface (wall, tree trunk, architectural detail) from 300-600mm distance, or to create defined pools of light along pathway edges when installed at 1.5-2m intervals.
The aluminium construction is powder-coated in a dark graphite finish that blends into soil, mulch and dark paving after installation. The glass diffuser sits recessed within the head, protected from accidental contact by the outer rim of the cylinder. The entire assembly weighs approximately 400g and the spike length of 117mm provides stable anchoring in most soil types without needing a separate foundation. AC 110-240V input makes it compatible with standard UK mains outdoor lighting circuits and low-voltage garden lighting transformers where step-down is used.

Frequently Asked
What spacing is recommended for pathway lighting?
For continuous pathway edge lighting, install at 1.5-2m intervals. For accent lighting on individual features (small trees, architectural details, planting focal points), a single spike per feature is typically sufficient.
Can the head angle be adjusted?
The head is fixed vertically. Directional control is achieved by positioning the spike closer to or further from the target surface and by adjusting the mounting height between 88mm and 159mm.
Is it compatible with low-voltage systems?
The spike light operates on AC 110-240V input. It can be used with low-voltage garden lighting systems where a suitable step-down transformer is installed to convert the mains supply.
How deep does the spike need to be inserted?
The 117mm spike should be inserted to at least 80-100mm depth for stable anchoring. In loose or sandy soils, full insertion to the base of the head may be needed to prevent movement.
