Description
The Bern is a compact outdoor spike light with an integrated 15W LED housed in a graphite-finished aluminium body. The light head measures 108mm diameter and tilts on a bracket fixed to a ground spike, allowing the beam to be angled onto pathways, borders, architectural features or planting. The 3000K warm-white LED produces a focused beam through a toughened glass lens, with a CRI of 80 for accurate colour rendering of foliage, stonework and timber.
Designed for residential garden lighting, the Bern suits pathway edging, border uplighting, tree canopy illumination and driveway accent lighting where mains power is available nearby. The spike pushes into soil, grass or gravel to a depth of approximately 90mm, and the head height adjusts between 133mm and 222mm depending on how far the spike is driven in. The IP65 rating seals the electronics against rain, garden spray systems and submersion in temporary puddles.
The aluminium body resists corrosion in damp soil and coastal salt air, and the graphite powder-coat finish sits neutrally against dark mulch, slate chippings and charcoal paving without creating visual clutter in daylight. The light weighs approximately 600g including the spike, giving enough mass to resist being knocked by garden tools or passing feet once installed. The beam angle is approximately 30-40 degrees, creating a defined pool of light rather than wide wash.
The Bern runs on 110-240V AC mains, requiring an outdoor-rated cable run from a switched power source or external junction box. The 15W output is bright enough to illuminate a 2-3m path width or uplight a small tree from 1-1.5m away, but multiple units are typically required for full pathway or border coverage. Maytoni backs the fitting with a 3-year warranty covering the LED driver and housing against manufacturing defects.

Frequently Asked
Is the Bern suitable for coastal gardens?
Yes. The aluminium body and IP65 rating handle salt air and coastal moisture. Rinse the fitting occasionally with fresh water to prevent salt buildup on the lens and bracket joints.
Can the light head be angled?
Yes. The head tilts on a bracket fixed to the ground spike, allowing the beam to be directed upwards onto walls or planting, horizontally along pathways, or downwards onto gravel and paving.
How deep does the spike need to be pushed into the ground?
The spike should be pushed approximately 90mm into soil or gravel for stability. In loose or sandy soil, pushing it deeper improves resistance to being knocked or tilted by garden maintenance.
What cable is required?
The Bern requires an outdoor-rated mains cable (typically 1.5mm² three-core flex with outdoor-grade insulation) run from a switched power source or external junction box. Cable is not included and must be purchased separately.
