Description

This is an oval serving platter in cream stoneware, 28.5cm long, 18cm wide and 2cm tall. The centre carries a crackle glaze, a fine web of lines across the surface, and over it runs a row of botanical sprigs: a feathery leafy spray, slender upright stems and a delicate cloud of tiny flower heads. The broad rim is smoother, so it frames the pattern and gives your fingers a clean edge to hold. At this size it is larger than a plate yet still easy to pass along a table.

It is approved for food, so it earns its place at the table: cheese and crackers, sliced fruit, a few pastries at breakfast or a starter handed round before dinner. With a height of just 2cm it is a shallow piece, best for food that sits flat rather than anything swimming in sauce. It is just as useful away from the kitchen. On a dressing table it keeps rings and bracelets together in one spot, and beside a bathroom basin it makes a generous tray for bars of soap. In a hallway it can catch keys as you come in.
