Description

The Bayview is a 2.16m Georgian-style lamp post cast in black aluminium with a four-sided lantern head holding clear bevelled glass panels and a single E27 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately). The post stands on a square base plate 228mm across, with the lantern head proportioned to match traditional Victorian street lighting scaled for domestic gardens and driveways.

Designed for front gardens, driveways, pathways and gate entrances, the Bayview suits properties where a lamp post adds period character without needing mains street lighting. The IP44 rating allows installation in exposed positions where rain and splashing water are present, and the cast aluminium construction resists corrosion without the weight and maintenance demands of cast iron. The post is supplied in sections for assembly on site, with the base plate fixed to a concrete foundation or mounting pad.

The four bevelled glass panels distribute light in all directions rather than projecting it forward like a wall lantern, making the fitting effective for area lighting around a driveway turning circle or along a garden path where visibility is needed in multiple directions. The black powder-coated finish pairs with traditional brick, stone and timber-clad properties, and the Georgian proportions match period architecture from the 18th and 19th centuries. The lantern head can be fitted with a vintage-style filament bulb for decorative effect or a warm-white LED for functional path lighting up to 60W maximum.

Frequently Asked

Does the lamp post require concrete foundations?

Yes. The base plate is designed to be bolted to a concrete pad or foundation block set into the ground. A typical installation involves digging a foundation hole approximately 300mm deep, pouring a concrete pad, and bolting the base plate once the concrete has cured. Electrical supply must be run underground in armoured cable or conduit to the base of the post.

What bulb should be used?

The E27 fitting accepts standard Edison screw bulbs up to 60W maximum. For functional path lighting most users fit a 6-10W warm-white LED (2700K-3000K). For decorative effect a vintage-style filament LED replicates the look of a gas lamp without the heat and short lifespan of true incandescent bulbs.

Is the post supplied in one piece or sections?

The post is supplied in sections for assembly on site, making it easier to handle and transport. The sections connect via internal sleeves and the lantern head fixes to the top section. Full assembly instructions are included.

Can it be installed on a driveway or does it need grass/soil?

The post can be installed on a driveway or paved area provided a concrete foundation block is set below the surface level. On driveways this typically involves cutting out a section of tarmac or block paving, installing the foundation and base plate, then reinstating the surface around the post base.
