Description

A drum shade in faux silk sits close to the ceiling here, wrapped in ivory pearl with a white laminate lining, while the metalwork beneath is finished in satin nickel. A frosted acrylic diffuser closes the underside, so the lamp is softened rather than stared at, and light spills through the sides of the 40cm shade as well as down onto the floor. The overall look is quiet and unfussy, which is generally what a room with limited height asks for.

We reach for this one where a pendant would hang too low to be comfortable: bedrooms under a sloping roof, a landing, a hallway that people carry bags through, or a small dining room where the table cannot be moved aside. It runs from a standard E27 lamp, and a GLS globe shape suits the shade best. Dimming is possible where the lamp and the dimmer are chosen to work together, so the light can be settled down for the evening.
