Description

A wide drum shade sits on a short satin nickel body here, holding the light close to the ceiling rather than dropping it into the room. The shade is dual faux silk, midnight black on the outside with a green olive lining that warms the light as it spreads, and beneath it a frosted acrylic diffuser with a satin nickel trim softens the view of the lamp from below. At 50cm across it reads as a broad, calm circle overhead.

This is the fitting to reach for in rooms where a pendant would hang too low: landings, hallways, bedrooms and dining spaces with a lower ceiling or a busy walkway. It takes a single screw-cap lamp of up to 20W, and we would choose a GLS shaped LED so the bulb shape follows the curve of the diffuser. It will dim with a compatible lamp and dimmer, which suits bedrooms where you want the level dropped in the evening. As a light for dry rooms indoors, it belongs anywhere away from splashes and steam.

The metalwork carries a satin nickel finish, quiet enough to sit with brushed door furniture and chrome, while the fabric shade brings the colour. To keep it looking fresh, run a soft brush or a vacuum on low over the faux silk now and then, and lift the diffuser off for a wipe with a barely damp cloth when dust settles on it. It carries a one year warranty.
